Christmas Music: Indie

Okay, not every artist on this list is "Indie" but that was a shorter title than "Songs and Artists You May Not Have Heard of, or At Least Haven't Heard Their Christmas Albums." So, here we are. While my last Christmas Music post was about popular artists, these are some not-so-popular artists who have made some definitely-awesome Christmas music.

Hey! It's Christmas - Vol. 1 & 2
I was introduced to this Christmas album, featuring a slew of indie (see, there it is) artists on some blog or another last Christmastime. And, fortunately when you download an album from Bandcamp, you have to give them your email, so a few weeks ago I got an email to let me know that there was a Hey! It's Christmas - Vol. 2 this year! Each artist offers their own unique musical take on Christmas classics, new classics and original songs. You may be introduced to some new bands to enjoy, or, like me, you may just have some more awesome Christmas music to add to your playlist. Enjoy your free download of Vol. 1 here and Vol. 2 here.

Pomplamoose
You might have seen a Pomplamoose video song at some point. Quite popular on YouTube, this duo creates a video to go with each of their songs, which shows them recording each instrument and vocals for the song. Their songs are very quirky and sometimes even funny, as are their videos. Their unique, delightful musical style is perfect for Christmas music. And their original Christmas song, Always is Season, will become one of your favorites, for sure.

She & Him
Everyone loves Zooey Deschanel, but not everyone loves her band. Or is that just me? Sorry, Zooey. I love your voice and I love your adorable music videos, but your music just isn't exactly my taste. Their Christmas album, however, is a different story. I could listen Zooey's deep, smooth voice sing the Christmas classics all day. Her voice is perfect for the slow, moody songs like Blue Christmas and their music goes perfectly with some of the more cheerful songs like Little Saint Nick.

Kristin Chenoweth
You may not recognize the name, but I'm sure you've seen this adorable actress woman in something. Pushing Daisies, Glee, Bewitched, Running with Scissors, Deck the Halls? If you saw her in Pushing Daisies or Glee, you'll know this girl can sing! This tiny woman is a trained opera singer, has starred on Broadway in Wicked and now has a Christmas album. She covers all the Christmas classics with her beautiful voice and delightful musical accompaniment.

Emmy Rossum
Oh, look, another actress who happens to be an opera singer. You may remember Emmy and her angelic voice from The Phantom of the Opera, or maybe you've been watching her on the small screen, starring, but not singing, in the US remake of Shameless. Emmy only put out a 3 song Christmas EP, but they're all beautiful. One of my favorite Christmas songs is O Holy Night, for it's powerful epic-ness, and her voice does it justice.
